year before he starts guarding your home but he will be good at barking

Good training starts very young.

Praise and a treat after a good deed makes for a good watch dog.

DON'T EVER PUSH ON A DOGS BEHIND TO MAKE IT SIT! The best way to achieve
sit, is to put the treat at the tip of their nose & lift the treat up
forcing the puppy to look up & sit. Once this is acomplished praise with
the treat & repeat ''good dog, sit.''

basics.

A puppy is ready to start training between 8 & 12 weeks of age, depending
on how attentive they are.
At first, you will need to start with the basic commands;
Sit,Stay,Come,No, & Heel
These are taught thru repitition & at the same time, you also are teaching
housebreaking & to answer to a name.
You basically say the command, at the same time you position the dogs body
for them in the correct position, then give them a treat. Even if you had
to position them yourself. Later, they will start moving into the position
on thier own.
ex: You say,''Sit at the same time, with the dog standing in front of you,
you press gently on the dogs rear until it is sitting. As soon as the dogs
butt hits the floor, you give a reward, & praise. Then stand the dog up &
repeat.
Never end a session under a negative note. Always reward them for trying
to learn.
As a puppy, it is most important that you keep the training limited to no
more than 5min./session & do about 4-5 sessions a day. This prevents the
puppy from becoming bored & losing attention. An older pup (24wks-1yr.)
can handle longer sessions of around 10-15min/session. At no point should
you continue if the dog loses interest, because it is not going to learn
anything.
Why the basics? Because a dog who is an attack dog requires a higher level
of control. You must know that the dog will instantly obey command,
regardless of conditions. Basic commands condition the dog to respond
automatically. Also, it helps the dog to have good manners.
For attack training, a dog must first have mastered basic commands. They
should be between 18-24mo. old before starting this training. This ensures
that they are both physically, & mentally ready for the work.
As with the basics, you give a command & move the animal into position.
Ex: You say, ''Bite!'' & at the same time, have a partner (wearing a
padded sleeve, of course) present thier arm to the dog, pushing the arm
into the dogs mouth. At first, the dog will try to back away. That is
fine. After a while, they will understand that they are supposed to chomp
down. As they learn, the person should move further away, until the
trainer can point to the person at a distance of about 15-20ft. & the dog
will go to the assistant & bite.
The same basic principles apply to any command that needs to be taught. 1:
Say command,Show dog what is expected, reward. And repeat often.
Also, you must teach the commands Watch, Hold, & Off. Watch will have the
dog only keep the person under observation, with the dog laying down
facing them. If the person moves, the dog is supposed to stand up & bark
to alert you. They are not allowed to approach the person or attempt to
bite.
Hold, is where the person is against a wall, & the dog is placed standing
in front of them. As long as the person doesn't move, the dog should
remain steady. If the person attempts to move, the dog should bite the
persons arm firmly, but only as a warning. When the person returns to the
wall, the dog should release & return to a standing position. This takes
months to teach because of the complexity, but is important.
And finally, ''Off!'' A dog must repond immedietly to this command. He
should immedietly cease any attack & return to ur side & lay down until
you give a further command. This command is what will prevent a dog from
going from protection to a killer. And it MUST be taught!!

Good Luck on ur puppy, & enjoy ur training time. Look into local dog
groups for help & suggestions too.

family.
But if the intruder has a gun he will prob, just shoot the dog, so buy a
gun or some means of protection to protect yourself.
If you can save up some money to get the dog training, it is awesome to
have. My sister has an Akita who is guard trained & if she gives the
command that dog will attack & prob. kill somoene.
She helped me train my dog as well.
You can go on the K-9 website also or call & ask for some tips but really
you shoud save up & take the dog in to get professionaly trained so he
doesn't attack someone who means no harm.

Dogs make poor defenders, get a gun. As long as your dog barks

when people are near your house, it is doing its job.

A dog is most likely not going to stop a person with a gun. I
Birdy
would suggest getting a watch dog and buying a gun. That would probably be

the most effective.
